As I Approach the Midyear

It’s been quite a while since I posted anything on my blog. Actually, the last post I made was before Pensacon. Things have really revved up for me in the busy-ness department since then, so I have a lot to cover and not a lot of… Oh, by the stars we still see, I have all the time in the world!

I’ll go ahead and start with Pensacon. It’s a little on the late side, but Pensacon was a huge success for me. If you’ve been following my Author Page or reading my newsletter, you know that I actually completely sold out of stock at Pensacon by the final day! That was over 70 books in just three short days! For me, it was an amazing experience that nearly brought me to tears! I have to send out a huge thank you to my good friend Nicholas Sincere for helping me man the booth and talking to people about the NANO storyline! In addition to selling out of merchandise, I added more than 90 new people to the Dusks and Dawns Mailing list! If you haven’t checked out the mailing list, be sure to do so on my Facebook Author Page or on this website!

With Pensacon’s success, I’ll be looking into other local or nearby conventions at which to make appearances. In the meantime, let’s talk about NANO Archive 02: The War for Uriel, namely the fact that it’s way behind schedule for release. I had originally intended to have it debut at the end of February when I went to Pensacon. I wanted to tie its release in with my appearance there; here it is the end of April, and I’m still several weeks (minimum) from announcing a release date. I want to assure all of you that the book will be releasing soon; the reason its behind schedule is because I am combing through it with a very, very, very fine-brush comb, in a manner of speaking. Don’t worry, it will release soon, and when it does it will be an excellent indicator of where my skills as a writer currently stand (Don’t worry, I’ll keep getting better!)

That brings me to three things which are currently on my plate. These three things all have me extremely excited as a writer, and while I’m waiting on the final edits to trickle in from my editor, I’m having a difficult time deciding which of these projects receives more of my time and attention!

1) The sequel series to NANO set in the Dusks and Dawns universe – If you’ve been following me, you know that the entire NANO series is already written. The only things standing in the way of its publication are beta reads, rewrites, and edits. I’m trying to stagger the releases a little bit, but the staggering process is taking longer than I thought so I’ll likely let less time pass before working on Archive 03 than I did between Archives 01 and 02. That means that (hopefully) Archives 03 part I and 03 part II will be releasing relatively close to Archive 02. That, in turn, means I’m spending a large bulk of my writing time mapping things out for The Dawn Maiden. It’s all still in its skeletal stages right now, but you should look forward to more An Era of Dusks and Dawns series releasing within the next few years.

2) A novella collaboration project – A friend of mine approached me not long ago with an interest in working with me to create a story. After talking things out with said friend, we ultimately decided the project would be a novella (for those that aren’t aware, a novella is a book structured like a novel, but it contains less than 40,000 words. Anything over 40,000 words is considered a novel.)  The most intriguing (to me) part of this process is that I, normally a strong self-publishing advocate, have been swayed to submit our novella to Tor upon completion. This will be my first time giving the traditional publishing avenue a chance, so I’m both excited and terrified at what it might bring!

3) Oni Press open submissions – Oni Press is a comic book publishing house that publishes some very interesting comics. In particular, they like to take a look at underrepresented characters and situations and put them in the spot light. They’re beginning open submissions starting in May. As a writer, I’ve always been interested in the ideas of visual art (comics) and animation, but I’m awful at drawing. If Oni Press likes my idea (a project I’m currently calling Cloud IX) they’ll pair me up with an illustrator and I’ll be able to see some of my work come to life visually! The possibilities for this are exciting, but even if Oni Press decides they don’t like my idea (which I have fallen in love with,) I plan to make a folder for it on my computer and continue it either as my own crack at comics or as a novel/series.

That’s about all I have to report here! If you receive the Dusks and Dawns Newsletter, you’ll likely be getting an issue within the next day or so. Maybe even today, if I can break away from some of my other work. There will be more details about my two side projects and the NANO series! So if you haven’t subscribed to the newsletter, be sure to do so!

As always, thank you all for your continued support!
